Deaths from Medical Errors
According to a study that was recently published, over 250,000 people in the US pass away every year as a result of medical mistakes. It is now the third most common cause of death. If hospitals are forced to disclose their errors, the issue can be resolved. Many people dislike physicians and medical facilities for a variety of reasons; to them, this might not seem like such a bad thing. However, life-threatening illnesses including kidney failure, diabetes, and heart disease can result from medical mistakes. It can be difficult to determine how many people have died because hospitals, physicians, and insurance providers don't always record when someone dies as a result of a mistake.
However, some hospitals have informed the Institute of Medicine of their errors, and in such reports, it is said that at least 98,000 people pass away annually. In several areas, insurance companies are already required to pay for the prevention of medical errors, and many more states demand that hospitals and doctors disclose any errors. Sometimes, doctors will keep their mistakes or the mistakes of the institution they work for a secret out of fear of being sued. It is more difficult to learn the truth about what actually transpired in the hospital when a doctor claims he doesn't want to be sued. Even if a doctor did everything right up until the point of not alerting anybody about the error that caused the patient's death, no one would ever know it was his fault. Hospitals could be required by law to record their errors and fatalities caused by Medical Errors.
